TITAY, Zamboanga Sibugay — August 20, 2026 — The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Kabasalan under the leadership of Rommel Candido, OIC CENR Officer, , in partnership with the Titay Municipal Fire Station headed by SFO4 Neil P Siaron, MENRO Titay, and the Barangay Councils of Timalang, Mati, and Lumbia, conducted a tree planting activity and cave clean-up and safety assessment at MaTiLum Cave on August 20, 2026.
The tree planting activity was carried out around the opening of MaTiLum Cave as part of efforts to promote environmental protection, conservation, and community stewardship of the area. Participating personnel and community members planted trees to help enhance the natural surroundings and contribute to the long-term preservation of the site.
The group also conducted a cave clean-up drive, with activities carried out both inside MaTiLum Cave and in its surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to maintain the cleanliness of the cave, protect its natural features, and encourage responsible care of the area.
As part of its public safety mission, personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) conducted a safety assessment of the cave, identifying potential hazards and safety concerns that could pose risks to tourists and visitors. The assessment is intended to support measures that will help ensure safer visits to the natural attraction.
The joint activities underscored the importance of cooperation among environmental offices, the BFP, local government units, barangay councils, and community members in protecting natural resources while promoting public safety.
The activities were conducted under the coordination of Rommel Candido, OIC CENR Officer, and reflected the stakeholders’ shared commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable community stewardship, and the safety of visitors at MaTiLum Cave.
