Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay | July 15, 2026 As part of its continuing commitment to strengthen disaster preparedness in educational institutions, personnel of the Titay Municipal Fire Station coordinated with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Coordinator of Titay National High School, Mr. Gary Labiano, to discuss the organization of a School Emergency Response Team (SERT).
The initiative aims to establish a dedicated emergency response team composed of selected teachers, students, and non-teaching personnel who will serve as the school’s first line of response during emergencies. Through this program, the Bureau of Fire Protection will provide comprehensive training on fire safety, basic life support (BLS), first aid, evacuation procedures, and emergency response.
A well-trained and organized SERT plays a vital role in ensuring that emergencies within the school are managed in a systematic, coordinated and timely manner. By equipping school personnel and student volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills, the program helps minimize injuries, protect lives, and maintain order while waiting for responding agencies to arrive.
This initiative is part of the station’s ongoing efforts to build disaster-resilient schools and empower communities through proactive disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness programs. Through strong collaboration between the Bureau of Fire Protection and the education sector, schools in the Municipality of Titay continue to become safer learning environments for every student, teacher, and member of the school community.
